Bacteria can express different resistance mechanism for a same class of antibiotics. Concerning aminoglycosides, the main resistance mechanism is due to the production of aminoglycoside modifying enzymes; however, a given strain could also express a mutated porin that impairs the entry of the drug and/or a mutated ribosomal protein.
